September 15, 2010

Oxford Liquor Shoppe is proud to announce that we now carry the beer of Cavalry Brewing, made right here in Oxford, CT. Local resident turned brewer Mike NcCreary decided to take on a new career brewing beer after faithful service to our country in Iraq.  He has dedicated his line of beer to his friends in the Army and all those who serve. Cavalry Brewing beers are brewed using traditional English methods on American equipment to create fresh and flavorful ales and stouts to entice the most discerning palate. Each product is a balance between the barley and the hops to provide an easy drinking ale or stout. For more information check out the website here or stop by the store to pick some up!

In Store Tasting 7/31: 2008 Archstone Pinot Noir

July 31, 2010

Today we are trying the 2008 Archstone Pinot Noir from Carneros.  We’ve been talking about the rumors for a while that high-end producers are selling off their wines under other monikers and this is what we have heard about this wine as well.  THIS DOES NOT TASTE LIKE A $11.99 WINE!! It has a nice nose of cherry, earth and a touch of cinnamon. The palate is where this delicate wine really shines though with flavors of cherry, raspberry, cola, and a touch of earth.  We could not believe this when I tasted it. Stop in and try it for yourself!

In Stock $11.99

Hailing from Lodi, this wine has a nose grapey nose with a touch of earth. It displays flavors of black cherry, raspberry, and ends with a touch of earth.  A nice alternative to your usual Cab or Merlot, this is a nice wine for only $12.99.

Oxford Liquor Shoppe Invades Napa Valley 5/15!

May 6, 2010

On May 15th, Oxford Liquor Shoppe will be taking it to the West coast for a trip to Napa Valley and one day in the Russian River Valley.  Oxford Liquor’s Matthew Slywka will be posting notes on our Facebook and Twitter pages with a full report on all the wineries visited when he returns. This will be a great opportunity to see first hand some of the wineries we buy wines from in the store, with pictures and commentary to share with our customers.  It’s also a great opportunity to get taste and give feedback on the new wines being released this year. In the meantime, check out some of the photos below from the Napa Valley trip back in 2007.

This picture was taken at Duckhorn Vineyards.  In the picture you can see the giant fan above the vineyard.  Whenever there is a frost warning in Napa Valley, we were told it’s like an air raid.  They have fans all over the valley like the one pictured above.  When the alarm goes off, all the fans are automatically turned on to get the air moving to try and prevent the frost from forming.

Three beautiful shots at Chateau St. Jean.

Opus One Winery.

The chalice fountain at Rudd Winery.

Two shots inside the wine caves at Rudd Winery. Notice the concrete fermenting eggs in both shots. They actually age not only whites but reds as well!
