2004 Used Auto Parts Napa Valley Red Wine Was $59.99 Now $33.99

This Bordeaux style blend, made up of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, is a high end wine from Don Sebastiani & Sons. They spared no expense with the high end packaging, coming up with the creative name and 22-carat gold lettering screen printed directly on the bottle. A medium plum, red color, this wine has aromas of dried fruit and cassis, followed by hints of vanilla, light smoke and leather notes that jump out of the glass. The palate is a mouthful of boysenberry and blackberry compote over a matrix of silky tannins integrated with tobacco, cola and a lush sappy vanilla. This wine finishes with a hint of cinnamon and clove spices. This is a steal for the price!

2005 Alto Moncayo Garnacha Was $49.99 Now $39.99

If you like Spanish Garnacha, look no further than the Alto Moncayo. This is jam-packed with flavor and just downright delicious! Check out the glowing reviews for Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate.

Wine Advocate 95 Points

“The 2005 Alto Moncayo is a selection of older Garnacha vineyards. Purple colored, it is more expressive aromatically with enticing aromas of pain grille, spice box, floral notes, black cherry and black raspberry. Richer, more layered, and intense, this superb effort has a 60+ second finish. Give it 2-3 years to unfurl and drink it through 2020.”

Wine Spectator 90 Points

“Rich yet lithe, this red is plush yet remains graceful and nervy, thanks to the energy of its acidity. There’s plenty of cocoa and spice from oak, but it’s the blackberry and cassis fruit that lingers. Drink now through 2012. 600 cases made.

2004 Bodega Matarredonda Libranza Tempranillo Was $45.99 Now $39.99

This is another Spanish gem and is just starting to come into it’s recommended drinking window. Coming from 100-140 year old prephylloxera vines, you won’t find many Tempranillo wines this good at this price point.

Wine Advocate 94 Points

“The 2004 Libranza spent 14 months in French and American oak. Inky purple-hued, it has a complex bouquet of smoke, cedar, tar, pencil lead, espresso, and blackberry. This is followed by a plush, full-bodied, intense wine in which spice notes and licorice emerge. It conceals enough tannin to evolve for 5-7 years and should drink well through 2035.”

2002 Campo Eliseo Toro Was $53.99 Now $39.99

Campo Eliseo is a great French partnership that includes Michel Rolland, the great French wine consultant. This is exquisite now and only getting better with age.

2008 Matua Marlborough Paretai Sauvignon Blanc Was $24.99 Now $19.99

Matua is a great example of the fantastic Sauvignon Blancs coming out of New Zealand. The citrus flavors that come of this region are vivid, with grapefruit really jumping out at you.  They are well balanced with fantastic acidity and perfect for seafood or Asian cuisine.

Wine Spectator 92 Points

“This jazzy white is generous with its grapefruit, pear and fresh herb aromas and flavors, mingling on the juicy, lively finish. Particularly distinctive for the balance of citrus and stone fruit, along with the harmonious finish. Drink now. 2,375 cases imported.”

2008 Felsner Gruner Veltliner Was $12.99 Now $9.99

Manfred Felsner took over the family’s modest estate in 1990 and has clearly worked very hard. He specialises in coaxing the best possible vineyard-designated wine, notably from the estates mature Gruner Veltliner vines, at least half of which are more than 30 years old. He and his family use minimal intervention in the vineyard and he has been steadily reducing yields for more expressive wines. Moosburgerin may not trip off the Anglophone tongue but it is one of the best sites in Gedersdorf. He also has some of the best sites in Rohrendorf in Kremstal and his white wines are made in a cellar carved out of the local loess more than 450 years ago. This Gruner Veltliner has medium body with refreshing acidity.  It shows hints of citrus, pear and a touch of popcorn. Great Alternative to either Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc.
